September saw the retirement of the Bishop of Tasmania, John Harrower. We have been really blessed to have John as the leader of our Anglican church in Tasmania over the last fifteen years. He has shown clear leadership around some very difficult issues, has inspired many of us to be more passionate about mission and discipleship, and has been a real encourager to ministers and lay people alike.
John and Gaylene were farewelled on 12th September at St David's Cathedral, Hobart where they enjoyed a number of farewell speeches and even a visit from Elvis! You can read more about that service, as well as watch the Bishop's farewell sermon here.
John and Gaylene have also written a thank you letter to all members of the Anglican church in Tasmania, including the 'Blessing for Tasmania' that Bishop John wrote for his installation in 2000. You can read that letter and blessing here.
Naturally, work is now underway to identify the next Bishop of Tasmania. Please join us in praying for the process - for God's wisdom and direction, and for his will to be done - as candidates are interviewed and decisions made in the next couple of months.
