New year, New Beginnings, and New Funding...

To our Barney’s Family and Friends,

It’s a new year

It’s been great to get 2018 off to a great start. We had fun social events through January, culminating in our long-weekend camping at Myrtle Park.

Our Sunday gatherings have been fun and vibrant, and at the same time meaningful and engaging. Our missional communities are gearing up for 2018.

Many of us are embracing new jobs, new courses of study, and new seasons of life. In particular, we are celebrating with Nancy Ann, who has served in many areas in Barney’s over the last couple of years, and who now has a new position teaching at Newstead Christian School. While Nancyann will scale back from some of her ministry among us, we are excited for her in this new season.

We are really grateful and thankful for each one of you for being part of our community, and sharing your gifts and ideas, and yourselves.

It’s a new season

2018 also marks the beginning of a new season in terms of our funding at Barney’s. As many of you will know, we have been generously blessed and supported over the last 8 years by the Bush Church Aid Society. Without the support of BCA, the re-planting of Barney’s would not have been possible.

In the next few months BCA’s financial support of Barney’s will come to an end. That’s good and right - BCA have blessed us hugely, and while their funding of Barney’s won’t continue, BCA are committed to blessing and supporting continuing and new ministries around Australia, including here in Tasmania.

Our challenge as a church community is to continue growing as God’s missionary people - seeing lives transformed, even with the challenge of this change in funding.

As Barney’s has grown over the last 8 years, we are in a much healthier place now, where we have a growing congregation who are giving generously of their time and their money. Thank you so much to each one of you who gives so generously to support our life together at Barney’s, and thanks especially to those who have started tithing over the last year.

We have a growing team of missional leaders who are serving us as a church community, and leading us in making disciples and engaging with our local community. Our core team of ministry equippers, which in 2018 comprises Andy and Liz, Gabi, Stephen, Emily and Stefan, all do a phenomenal job leading and equipping our whole community as we continue to follow Jesus and make disciples.

As we have prayed and listened to God, we as a leadership team believe God is calling us to continue in the ministry we are involved in, and to continue with our model of a team of part-time ministry equippers.

The temptation at a time where some funding is reduced is to slow down, and scale back our life together. However, we believe God is calling us to trust in him, to continue walking with him, and to continue living and leading as disciples who make disciples. We have also been able to secure some ongoing funding towards our youth ministry from within the Anglican Diocese of Tasmania.

As we enter into 2018 - each one of us has the opportunity to help and engage with what God is doing among us and through us in the northern suburbs of our city and beyond.

Please prayerfully consider helping and blessing our community in the following ways:

Please join us in thanking and praising God for all the ways he has blessed us and provided for us as a church community over the last eight years. Please pray with us that God would continue to provide and bless us as we look to the future.

Thank you to all who already give generously of their finances to our Barney’s community. If you haven’t already done so, please do carefully consider whether you are able to increase your giving as we head into 2018.

We have put together a short video which highlights some of our stories of change and transformation over the past 8 years. Please share this video, and the story of what God has been doing at Barney’s, with your families and friends. We do believe God is working quite powerfully in our Barney’s family, and sense that there are many people beyond our immediate community who would be glad to partner with us in this season.

Thank you once again for being a part of our community. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or comments. And thanks be to God for all that he is doing in our midst.

Andy and Liz
